Do we live to learn, work, spend and die? Or is there a greater purpose for you? Senior Financial Planner David Strege provides insight into finding your purpose in retirement.
To determine this purpose, you need to evaluate who you are and what is important to you:
• Distinguish what you think is important, know your values and strive towards them.
• Identify how your values manifest in your everyday life.
• Review where you spend your time and money by examining your checkbook and calendar.
• Assess your skills and unique talents. Perhaps these things can reveal the areas and things you are passionate about.
• Determine where you would like to contribute financially.
Long-term satisfaction in retirement will come from using your knowledge, abilities and experiences to help others in ways that interest you.
As you purposefully live your retirement, you will live and give generously with your time, talents and treasures. You can try various things and figure out where you want to give more of yourself to help others. It will also define what you want to support and how you do it. THIS IS LIVING.
