This Story Needs to Be Heard special guest, Lori Schaefer-Weaton, is president of Agri-Industrial Plastics Co. in Fairfield, Iowa. Agri-Industrial Plastics is a custom industrial blow molder of large-scale parts. Their expertise is in the design, manufacture, and assembly of EPA-compliant, non-automotive fuel tanks, as well as critical components for a wide range of industries.
Lori describes some of the biggest lessons she has learned being in a family business, including making decisions based upon business, not family emotion. She talks about how she has learned from her parents to give back her time, talent, and treasures.
In the interview, Lori shares her leadership philosophy and why she is excited to be a leader, especially during the pandemic. She loves to use the opportunity to “create moments where you can shine.” She also noted that tough times reveal the strength of a team.
Lori is a big proponent of networking, both to collaborate on ideas, but also to find good people. She encourages people if they are stuck, to go back to your network for advice. In regard to good people, she says it’s OK to confront employees who are not passionate about their jobs and seek out good people to join your company.
Lori shared the story of a life-changing illness and the positives that came out of it. She explained that within a moment, she reset her priorities. And she then lived with appreciation.
